Two Bolts Alumni Selected in 2022 MLS SuperDraft

BOLTS USL2 ALUMNI PAULO LIMA & TYLER BAGLEY SELECTED IN 2022 MLS SUPERDRAFT

BOSTON – We are proud to announce that two Boston Bolts USL2 Alumni were drafted in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft last night, January 11, 2022. Paulo Lima was selected with the 4th pick in the second round by the Houston Dynamo and Tyler Bagley will be headed to Inter Miami CF as the 26th selection of the second round. Congratulations to both gentlemen on their amazing accomplishments!

Paulo Lima competed as a midfielder for the Bolts throughout the 2019 USL2 season. He heads to Houston after a stellar career at Providence College, scoring 13 goals and collecting 6 assists across 50 games. Lima earned All-Big East First Team recognition this past season while leading the Friars to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

“Congratulations to Paulo! Houston have picked up a wonderfully talented player. You can tell straight away that Paulo is an incredibly talented young man,” said Boston Bolts USL2 Head Coach Aidan Byrne. “His desire was always to be a pro player and I really hope he succeeds!”

Tyler Bagley built off his incredible 2021 summer with the Boston Bolts to become the second player from Cornell to ever be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft. In the 2021 USL2 season, Bagley helped lead the Bolts to a 10-3-0 record and a berth in the 2021 League Two Playoffs. Bagley’s summer performance was highlighted by 12 goals in 13 games and a spot on the 2021 USL2 All-League Team of the Year. Bagley continued his strong run into the NCAA season as he finished No. 2 in the country in scoring, with 14 goals and seven assists across 16 games for Cornell.

“Happy for Tyler to get drafted! It doesn’t surprise me to be honest,” Byrne said. “He showed incredible grit and determination as a Bolts player. His desire and work ethic on and off the pitch is a big reason for his success. He is a great role model for young players who want to fulfill their potential and dreams. He wanted it, he chased it and now he has a chance to make it happen. Good luck Tyler!”

Lima and Bagley are the 10th and 11th Bolts alumni players to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft.
